Some Vista users with the current included mail program, Windows Mail, have
discovered their Spell Check did not work. Instead, this error message appears: "This language is no longer available for Spell Checking. Please select another in the Spelling Options Dialogue."
This problem is easily fixed.
1. On the Windows Mail menu, click Tools and select "Options."
2. In the Options window select the Spelling tab.
3. On the Spelling tab page choose any language other than English and click the Apply button.
4. Now choose English and click the Apply button. While there you may check "Always check spelling before sending" and/or other options.
5. Click OK
Do you ever receive an email in a language you do not understand or need to send one to a person who speaks a language other than yours? Microsoft has included a language conversion feature in the following 2007 Microsoft Office programs: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio and Word. This is a machine translation that uses bilingual dictionaries on the Web, so sometimes the results may provide interesting conversions. The following is gleaned from Microsoft's Web site.
Security Note provided by Microsoft: When you send text to the Web for translation services, your document is sent in an unencrypted HTML format.
You can also use bilingual dictionaries to look up words and short phrases in the dictionary of another language.
On a received message, you may have to copy the message and paste it into Windows Office Word before translating. You may translate words, phrases, paragraphs or entire documents.
In Word:
1. Click on the Review tab and choose "Translate" (in the left section of the wide toolbar at the top of the window).
2. Right-click anywhere in the document and choose "Translate" on the context menu that appears.
3. In the Research task pane (the column on the right side of the main window), choose whether you want to translate a word or sentence or the whole document and follow the instructions.
If you have not previously used the translation feature, you may have to install the bilingual dictionaries and then enable the translation service in the Research task pane. At the very bottom of the Research task pane is a link named "Research Options..." If you click on that link you will be able to locate the language dictionaries and add their services. You can also use Translation ScreenTips (on the wide toolbar at the top of the window) to translate a single word that you point to. For more information, see "Use Translation ScreenTips."
In PowerPoint:
Only one slide can be translated at a time. The steps are similar to those for Word.
1. Select the words or paragraph you want to translate, or type them in the "Search for" box.
2. Under the Translation heading in the Research task pane, use the "From" and "To" lists to select the languages you want and click the Start Searching button.
OneNote, to find the Translate feature:
1. Click on the Tools menu and choose "Research."
2. In the "All Reference Books" list (in the Research task pane, right panel), click "Translation."
3. Follow directions as in the above applications.
Office Programs that do not have a Review Tab:
Method One:
1. On the Tools menu click on "Research." In Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, this option is only available when composing your message in Office Word 2003.
2. In the "Search for" list, select "Translation" and follow directions.
Method two (if other options are not available):
1. On the Tools menu click on "Language."
2. In the list that appears, select "Translate" and follow directions.
Happy translating!
If you are the only user of your PC but you must log in each time you start your computer, you may wish to eliminate that step. This removes some security. You will want your firewall and any other security software to remain current. Here is how to remove the login step. You must be logged on as administrator:
1. Click on Start and Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel double-click on User Accounts (if you are using the Classic View; otherwise one click will do).
3. Under "Pick an account to change," click on your Windows XP username.
4. Select "Remove my password."
5. Enter you current password in the box that appears.
6. Click the Remove Password button.
Or, you may do the following:
1. Open Control Panel.
2. Double-click on Administrative Tools (if using the Classic view of Control Panel).
3. Go to Local Security Settings and choose Minimum password length.Set it to 0, (No password required).
4. Now, in the Control Panel double-click on User Accounts.
5. Choose your account and remove the password.
When you start Vista, you are asked to log in. If you are the only user of your PC you may wish to eliminate that step. This reduces your security. You will want your firewall and any other security software to remain current. Here is how to remove the login step:
1. Go to the Control Panel (Click the Start orb and select Control Panel).
2. Look in the left column. If you are in Classic View, click on "Control Panel Home" to change the view. Now click on "User Accounts and Family Safety."
3. In the wimdow that appears, click on User Accounts.
Under the heading "Make Changes to Your User Account" (right pane), click on "Remove your Password." An account that has no password, and therefore no login required, this link will not appear. Instead the link "Create a password for your account" will be in its place.
4. A screen will appear for you to enter your current password. After you enter it, click the Remove Password button.
5. Close the User Accounts window and Restart your computer.
Here is a quick method you might try if you have administrator privileges.
1. Click on the Start orb
2. In the upper righthand corner of the Start Menu should be a small picture identifying your account. Click on it.
3. I think you will see a link with words similar to "Delete my password." Mine does not have that link because I do not have a password. Instead mine says, "Create a password for your account." If yours has the link for deleting the password, click on it and follow directions. You will be asked to enter your current password. Then you can make the choices noted in the item above.

2. In the Preferences window uncheck boxes relating to tabs and click on the "Additional tab options" button.
